Coyote Tan Meets Bronze – Full Metal Construction, Programmable EFCS and Seriously Snappy Trigger Response!

Description.

Not every M4 needs to look like it came off the same production line. The Secutor ASTRA IV Shadow AEG Airsoft Rifle with M-LOK in Tan certainly doesn't. With its distinctive Coyote Tan furniture, Bronze metal components and aggressive modern receiver design, this airsoft assault rifle brings something different to the usual black M4 crowd. And underneath that rather smart exterior, there's a proper ARES electronic gearbox setup waiting to do the hard work.

The ASTRA IV Shadow is a full-size M4/AR-15-style electric rifle designed for players who want modern ergonomics, useful customisation options and responsive performance straight from the box. Unlike a basic spring-powered BB Gun, this Airsoft AEG uses a battery-driven motor and gearbox to fire 6mm BBs in semi-automatic or fully automatic modes. With its manageable dimensions and adjustable stock, it's equally comfortable tackling woodland skirmishes or the tighter corners of a CQB site.

Distinctive Metal Construction and Bronze M-LOK Handguard

Starting at the front, the ASTRA IV Shadow features a metal muzzle assembly and a modern CNC-machined aluminium M-LOK handguard. The Bronze finish contrasts nicely against the Coyote Tan polymer furniture, giving the rifle a distinctive appearance without looking unnecessarily flashy.

The handguard features M-LOK mounting slots along the sides and underneath, allowing compatible accessories to be fitted directly or through additional rail sections. There's also a continuous 20mm Picatinny top rail that runs back towards the receiver, providing plenty of mounting space for optics and other compatible equipment.

One particularly useful addition is the included modular vertical foregrip. Its three-position adjustable design lets you change the grip arrangement to suit your preferred handling style. It's a nice extra, especially if you're still experimenting with different support-hand positions.

The rifle also features a threaded muzzle arrangement for compatible aftermarket accessories. Check the thread direction before purchasing a tracer unit or suppressor, as the supplied product information lists both clockwise and counter-clockwise configurations.

Modern Receiver Design With Fully Ambidextrous Controls

Moving back, the ASTRA IV Shadow has a distinctive receiver with a textured, waffle-pattern magazine well. Apart from looking rather good, the raised pattern provides additional grip when handling the rifle around the magazine housing.

The controls are particularly well thought out. You get an ambidextrous fire selector, magazine release and functional bolt catch, making the rifle comfortable for both left-handed and right-handed airsofters.

The fire selector provides the familiar safe, semi-automatic and fully automatic settings. Its redesigned profile helps reduce unnecessary protrusions around the trigger finger, which can make handling feel more natural.

Pulling back the charging handle opens the dust cover and locks the mock bolt to the rear, exposing the rotary hop-up adjustment. Once you've finished adjusting it, pressing the bolt catch releases the mock bolt with a satisfying mechanical clack.

It's a small detail, admittedly, but those little touches make an airsoft gun more enjoyable to use.

ARES EFCS Electronic Gearbox and High-Torque Motor

Inside the ASTRA IV Shadow sits an ARES EFCS-equipped Version 2 gearbox. This is one of the rifle's strongest features and a good reason to consider it over a more basic M4 AEG.

The gearbox uses 18:1 steel gears, a reinforced internal arrangement and a high-torque motor. The motor provides the pulling power needed to cycle the gearbox efficiently, helping produce a crisp response when you squeeze the trigger.

The electronic fire control system, or EFCS, replaces conventional mechanical trigger contacts with electronic control. This improves the way the trigger communicates with the gearbox and provides additional programming options.

Using a separately available ARES EFCS programming box, you can configure supported firing modes, including burst fire and semi-automatic-only operation. That's particularly useful if you regularly play at sites with different firing restrictions.

The EFCS also incorporates low-voltage protection, helping prevent excessive battery discharge. There's a quick-change spring system too, making power adjustments more convenient when carried out by someone familiar with AEG maintenance.

Maple Leaf Hop-Up and Consistent Shooting Performance

Another welcome feature is the pre-installed Maple Leaf 60-degree hop-up rubber, paired with a shaped hop-up cam and adjustable rotary unit.

For anyone unfamiliar with hop-up, it's the system that applies backspin to your BBs, helping them travel further with a flatter flight path. Getting the adjustment right can make a surprisingly big difference, especially when shooting outdoors.

Maple Leaf hop-up components are well regarded among airsoft players, and having one fitted from the start saves you from immediately considering a basic hop rubber upgrade.

The ASTRA IV Shadow is listed at approximately 330 FPS using 0.20g BBs, with a stated variation of around 10%. Actual performance will depend on the individual rifle and test conditions, so it's always worth checking with a chronograph before your first game.

With its adjustable hop-up and responsive gearbox, the ASTRA IV provides a useful balance between controlled semi-automatic shooting and fully automatic performance.

Ergonomic Pistol Grip and Five-Position Adjustable Stock

Behind the receiver sits an ergonomic polymer pistol grip with textured surfaces for secure handling. The grip angle is designed to feel comfortable with the stock shortened, which suits more modern shooting positions.

The enlarged trigger guard provides additional room when wearing gloves, while the flat, serrated trigger face gives your finger a consistent contact point.

At the rear, the ASTRA IV features a five-position telescopic stock mounted on a metal buffer tube. You can shorten it for tighter indoor environments or extend it for a more relaxed shoulder position outdoors.

The stock includes a raised cheek area, textured butt plate and sling attachment options, including QD mounting points. It's a practical arrangement that works nicely with the rifle's modern styling.

The battery compartment is located inside the buffer tube and is accessed by removing the stock. A compact 7.4V LiPo stick battery with a Deans connector is a sensible choice, with approximately 1300mAh capacity recommended in the supplied information.

120-Round Mid-Cap Magazine and M4 Compatibility

The ASTRA IV Shadow comes with a 120-round mid-capacity magazine, providing a useful amount of ammunition without the constant rattling associated with traditional high-cap magazines.

Mid-caps feed BBs using an internal spring, so there's no winding wheel to worry about. Just load it with a suitable speedloader and you're ready to go.

The rifle also accepts compatible M4/AR-15 AEG magazines, giving you plenty of options when choosing spare magazines for longer skirmishes.

At approximately 2.57kg, the ASTRA IV has enough weight to feel substantial without becoming a burden. Its adjustable length of roughly 76cm to 85cm also makes it manageable in a variety of playing environments.
