Description

The G&G GC16 MPW 7" AEG Airsoft Rifle in Black takes everything that makes the larger GC16 MPW an attractive skirmish gun and squeezes it into a much more compact package. With its full metal receiver, short CNC-machined handguard and electronic trigger system, this airsoft rifle is a cracking option for players who prefer close-quarter games but don't want to compromise on build quality or internal features. It's short, solid and has that unmistakable modern AR styling.

At approximately 735mm overall length, the 7-inch MPW is noticeably easier to handle in confined spaces than its longer 12-inch counterpart. That's particularly useful when you're moving through doorways, working around barricades or navigating tight corridors. Better still, G&G has retained the Electronic Trigger Unit (ETU) and integrated MOSFET, so you're getting the same useful electronic features in a smaller electric rifle. For CQB players who want a proper full metal Airsoft AEG rather than a lightweight entry-level BB Gun, this little GC16 has plenty going for it.

Full Metal GC16 Construction

Starting with the receiver, the GC16 MPW 7" features a durable metal alloy body that gives the rifle a substantial, reassuring feel. Unlike G&G's more affordable polymer Combat Machine models, the GC16 range puts greater emphasis on metal externals and a more premium finish.

The receiver, outer barrel and handguard use metal construction, while the pistol grip and stock incorporate polymer components. This combination provides strength where it's useful without making every part unnecessarily heavy.

The familiar M4-style layout also makes the rifle approachable. If you've already spent time using an AR-pattern airsoft gun, the controls and general handling will feel familiar. No strange operating procedures to learn. Just a straightforward assault rifle layout with some worthwhile upgrades under the bonnet.

Compact 7-Inch CNC-Machined Handguard

Moving towards the front, you'll find the MPW's distinctive 7-inch CNC-machined metal handguard. Finished with hard anodising, it provides a durable surface while giving the rifle its clean, purposeful appearance.

The shorter handguard is one of the main reasons to choose this version over the 12-inch model. It keeps the front end compact, making the rifle easier to manoeuvre around obstacles and through tighter spaces. Anyone who's tried squeezing a long woodland rifle around a CQB doorway will understand the appeal.

The MPW uses a combination of KeyMod mounting slots and 20mm Picatinny rails. KeyMod allows compatible accessories to attach directly to the handguard, while the upper rail provides a familiar mounting surface for red dot sights and other suitable optics.

There's enough flexibility to fit a compact foregrip, tactical torch or other compatible accessories without turning the front end into a bulky collection of rails. For CQB, keeping things simple is often the better approach.

205mm Inner Barrel and Adjustable Hop-Up

Inside the compact front assembly sits a 205mm inner barrel with a 6.08mm bore. That's considerably shorter than the 330mm barrel fitted to the larger MPW 12", but barrel length alone doesn't determine how accurately an airsoft rifle shoots.

The GC16 MPW also features an adjustable hop-up system, which applies backspin to the BB to help maintain a flatter flight path. With the hop-up properly adjusted and suitable ammunition, a shorter Airsoft AEG can still deliver consistent performance at typical skirmish distances.

For indoor CQB games, the compact barrel arrangement makes plenty of sense. There's less length to manage, and the rifle feels more comfortable when moving between cover. It can still be used outdoors too, especially at sites where mobility matters more than having a long front end.

Version 2 Gearbox with Electronic Trigger

Inside the receiver, G&G uses a Version 2 gearbox, a familiar internal platform found across many M4-style electric airsoft guns. This design is widely understood by airsoft technicians and offers potential for compatible upgrades and maintenance.

What makes the MPW particularly interesting is its Electronic Trigger Unit (ETU). Rather than relying entirely on conventional mechanical trigger contacts, the ETU uses an electronic switching arrangement to detect trigger activation.

In practical terms, this provides a crisp, responsive trigger feel, especially during repeated semi-automatic shooting. That's a welcome feature in CQB, where many sites restrict players to single-shot operation.

The integrated MOSFET manages electrical switching and helps reduce wear associated with traditional trigger contacts. It also provides low-voltage protection designed to help prevent excessive discharge of compatible LiPo batteries.

It's a useful bit of technology to have fitted from the factory, particularly if you want a capable airsoft gun without immediately spending more money on electronic upgrades.

Programmable 3-Round Burst Function

Another clever feature of the GC16 MPW is its programmable firing system. The rifle supports semi-automatic and fully automatic operation, with the option to change the automatic setting to a 3-round burst mode.

On this G&G ETU system, the programming procedure involves holding the trigger for approximately ten seconds while in the appropriate semi-automatic setting. This changes the automatic firing behaviour between continuous full-auto and three-round burst.

It's a handy option if you prefer short, controlled bursts rather than holding the trigger down. Just remember that some indoor sites prohibit burst and automatic fire, so always follow your local skirmish rules.

One important point with G&G electronic triggers: the microswitch only needs a light press to activate. Pulling excessively hard or continuing to force the trigger backwards after firing can damage the switch. A gentle, controlled trigger pull is all that's needed.

LiPo Battery Compatibility

The GC16 MPW 7" is specified for use with a compatible 11.1V LiPo battery rated at 25C or below. The integrated MOSFET is designed to work with the rifle's electronic firing system, helping manage electrical operation during use.

As with any electric BB Gun, battery selection matters. Make sure your chosen battery matches G&G's recommendations, has the correct connector and physically fits the available battery compartment. A suitable LiPo balance charger should always be used.

M4 Magazine Compatibility

The GC16 MPW 7" uses the familiar M4-style AEG magazine format, making it practical for players who already own compatible AR-pattern airsoft magazines.

G&G lists compatibility with several magazine references, including G-08-008, G-08-051, G-08-052, G-08-068, G-08-083, G-08-101, G-08-150 and G-08-153.

This gives you options when choosing additional magazines, whether you prefer higher ammunition capacity or quieter mid-cap feeding. As always, it's worth checking the fit and feeding of third-party magazines before relying on them for a full day's skirmishing.

Who Is the G&G GC16 MPW 7" For?

The GC16 MPW 7" is particularly well suited to players who spend a lot of time in CQB arenas, urban skirmish sites or other environments where a shorter rifle is easier to handle.

It's also a sensible option for someone upgrading from a basic polymer AEG. The full metal construction, electronic trigger and MOSFET give it a more substantial feel and a useful set of features without requiring immediate modifications.

Compared with the longer 12-inch MPW, this version sacrifices some handguard space in exchange for improved manoeuvrability. Neither configuration is automatically better; it simply depends on where and how you prefer to play.
