Description.

The Cybergun Desert Eagle .50AE in Silver is a Green Gas GBB Pistol based on the well-established Tokyo Marui Desert Eagle design. Rather than using heavy metal externals, Cybergun has gone predominantly with ABS polymer, keeping this enormous airsoft pistol down to approximately 0.796kg. You still get the oversized Deagle proportions and lively blowback action, just without carrying something that feels like a house brick in your holster. Better still, it arrives in its own hard storage case.

The silver finish suits the Desert Eagle particularly well and is broken up by contrasting black grip panels. Being officially licensed by Magnum Research, this isn't a generic BB Gun with vaguely familiar styling either. The slide carries authentic-style Desert Eagle .50AE and Magnum Research markings, while the textured grips feature the familiar Desert Eagle roundel. For movie-inspired loadouts or anyone who simply wants the proper markings on their replica, that makes quite a difference.

At the front is a 6-inch polymer outer barrel housing a 135mm, 6.08mm inner barrel. The Desert Eagle's unusual construction means the outer barrel remains fixed during firing. The front sight is mounted to this fixed section, while only the rear portion of the slide reciprocates. That split-slide arrangement gives the pistol its characteristic appearance while reducing the amount of material the gas system needs to throw backwards and forwards with every shot.

The sights themselves are refreshingly straightforward. There's a large open rear sight matched to a low-profile front post with anti-glare serrations. The long distance between the front and rear sights helps when lining up a shot, while their chunky dimensions make them easy to find quickly. Nothing fancy. Just a clean sight picture that works.

One particularly useful feature is the adjustable rotary HOP-up. On many gas blowback pistols, changing the HOP means taking half the gun apart every time you want to make an adjustment. Not here. Lock the slide open and pull the chamber collar rearwards to expose the HOP dial on the outer barrel. It's a much friendlier arrangement when you're setting the pistol up at the start of a skirmish. The recommended BB weight is 0.25g, giving you a sensible starting point for getting the HOP dialled in.

Moving towards the rear, aggressive slide serrations provide plenty of purchase when racking the action. The ambidextrous safety can be operated from either side, and lowering it covers the red indicator and locks the trigger. This particular model is semi-automatic rather than the full-auto CO2 variant, which makes it a rather different animal. Pull the trigger, get one BB and one blowback cycle. Simple.

The frame, slide, grip panels and outer barrel are all polymer, while the trigger, hammer, disassembly catch and slide lock are alloy. That lighter construction isn't simply about making the pistol easier to carry. Less reciprocating mass also means the Green Gas system has less weight to move with every cycle. The result is fast slide movement and good gas efficiency, particularly useful when temperatures start dropping and gas pistols have to work harder.

The grip is predictably large – this is still a Desert Eagle – with textured panels and backstrap helping you keep control during firing. The slide release has a broad textured surface, while the magazine release is a relatively low-profile button on the left side. At the rear, the beavertail helps position your hand and keeps it away from the moving hammer and slide assembly.

The supplied Green Gas magazine holds approximately 26 BBs. Listed output is around 315 FPS ±10% using 0.20g BBs, while 0.25g ammunition is recommended for normal use. With the lighter polymer blowback components, this version won't produce the same brute-force recoil as one of the CO2 metal Desert Eagles, but that's not necessarily a drawback. The blowback remains substantial for a gas airsoft handgun while giving you better efficiency and a quicker cycling action.

At 28cm long, nobody will mistake this for a compact sidearm. That's exactly why people like Desert Eagles. This silver Cybergun version gives you the big-screen appearance, licensed markings and satisfying GBB operation without going down the heavier CO2 route. The included hard case is a nice finishing touch too, keeping this rather conspicuous hand cannon protected between skirmishes.
