Description.

The WE Tech P08 Luger 4" in Black is a Green Gas GBB Pistol based on one of the most recognisable handgun designs of the early 20th century. What separates this airsoft pistol from the crowd isn't simply its historical appearance. It's the action. Instead of a conventional slide travelling straight backwards, the P08 uses that unmistakable jointed toggle mechanism on top, which rises and folds as the pistol cycles. Even among gas blowback replicas, it feels refreshingly different.

This is the compact 4-inch version, measuring approximately 225mm overall and weighing around 660g according to the primary supplied specification. That shorter barrel gives the BB Gun the familiar service-pistol proportions associated with the classic P08 and keeps it relatively easy to handle. The exterior combines metal construction with textured polymer grip panels, finished in black for a suitably understated period appearance.

Starting at the front, the 4-inch outer barrel has the tapered profile that gives the Luger so much of its distinctive silhouette. Sitting on top is the traditional barleycorn-style front sight, complete with anti-glare texturing. It works with the rear notch to provide a surprisingly clean sight picture. These aren't big modern combat sights, obviously, but once you've spent a few magazines with them they're quite intuitive.

Move rearwards and things get more interesting. The WE P08 recreates the toggle-action operating system rather than hiding a conventional blowback setup beneath Luger-shaped bodywork. Pulling back the textured toggle gives you the distinctive hinged movement associated with the platform. Fire the pistol and the mechanism cycles with each shot. Watching it work is half the attraction – mechanically, there's simply more theatre going on than with the average modern airsoft handgun.

The controls follow the old-school P08 layout. The safety lever sits on the left rear of the frame, while the magazine release is positioned on the left near the junction between the grip and trigger guard. The curved trigger fits the period design, and the textured grip panels provide useful purchase without spoiling the classic shape. There's also a lanyard loop at the rear of the frame, useful if you want extra retention when carrying the pistol in a suitable holster.

Power comes from Green Gas stored in the dedicated P08 magazine. Capacity is approximately 15 BBs, so this isn't a high-capacity modern skirmish pistol. That's part of the experience. Load it, charge the toggle and you've got a semi-automatic GBB pistol that fires one BB for each trigger pull while cycling the action at the same time. The supplied information also lists Nuprol 2.0 and Nuprol 3.0 as compatible gas options.

One thing worth knowing before choosing a Luger GBB is that these long, narrow gas magazines can be sensitive to cold conditions. Keep the magazine reasonably warm in colder weather if you want the action to cycle properly. That's not particularly unusual for a Green Gas airsoft gun, but the Luger mechanism can make the effect more noticeable. Regular lubrication is also recommended to keep the moving components operating smoothly.

The supplied information contains conflicting HOP-up specifications, with one section describing an adjustable HOP-up and another describing a fixed system. Rather than pretending otherwise, it's worth treating the exact HOP arrangement as something to confirm on the individual production version. The supplied sources similarly give different velocity figures, ranging from approximately 225 FPS to 320 FPS with 0.20g BBs, so actual output should be confirmed by chronograph rather than assumed from those figures.

As a skirmish sidearm, the WE P08 isn't trying to outdo a modern Hi-Capa on magazine capacity or accessory mounting. There are no rails hanging off it, and that's rather the point. Its appeal comes from the full metal feel, unusual blowback mechanism and instantly recognisable historical styling. Pair it with a period-inspired loadout and it makes complete sense; use one with modern kit and, well, you're certainly not going to lose it among a table full of Glocks.
