Fifth-Generation Handling, Snappy Gas Blowback and a Fresh Tan Finish!

Description.

The WE Tech EU17 Series Gen 5 GBB Airsoft Pistol in Tan takes one of airsoft's most recognisable handgun designs and gives it a welcome update. Based on the fifth-generation EU platform, this airsoft pistol brings improved ergonomics, ambidextrous controls and a few clever refinements that make a genuine difference when you're out skirmishing. Nothing unnecessarily complicated. Just a familiar, practical design with the rough edges smoothed off.

Powered by Green Gas, the WE EU17 Gen 5 is a semi-automatic GBB Pistol with a moving metal slide that kicks backwards with every shot. Unlike a basic spring BB Gun, you don't need to manually cock it between shots. The gas system cycles the action automatically, delivering satisfying recoil and quick follow-up shots. It's a great option for CQB players, woodland skirmishers or anyone wanting a realistic airsoft handgun without a mountain of complicated controls.

Metal Slide, Polymer Frame and a Proper Blowback Kick

Starting at the front, the EU17 Gen 5 features a redesigned alloy slide with a more rounded muzzle end. It's a subtle change compared with earlier generations, but it gives the pistol a cleaner profile and makes handling the slide more comfortable.

The metal construction adds reassuring weight without making the whole pistol unnecessarily heavy. At approximately 744g, it feels substantial in the hand, while the polymer lower frame helps keep things manageable during longer games.

WE has also tightened up the slide fit on this generation, reducing the movement and rattling associated with some earlier EU models. The recoil spring gives the slide a particularly crisp return to battery. You'll notice that satisfying snap every time it cycles. It's one of those little details that makes gas blowback airsoft guns so addictive.

Redesigned Gen 5 Grip With Interchangeable Backstraps

Moving down to the frame, one of the biggest improvements is the redesigned pistol grip. WE has removed the moulded finger grooves found on earlier EU17 generations, leaving a straighter front strap that accommodates a wider range of hand sizes.

Personally, this is a welcome change. Finger grooves can feel brilliant if your fingers happen to line up with them, but rather awkward if they don't. The Gen 5 design lets you settle into a natural grip without the pistol telling your fingers where they should go.

Aggressive grip texturing helps maintain control when wearing gloves or playing in wet conditions. You also get two interchangeable backstraps, allowing you to adjust the grip profile to suit your hands.

At the bottom, the magazine well has a slightly flared opening. This helps guide the magazine into position during reloads, particularly when you're trying to get back into the action quickly.

Ambidextrous Controls and Practical Safety Features

Another important Gen 5 improvement is the ambidextrous slide release. Earlier EU17 models were less accommodating for left-handed players, so having controls on both sides is a useful addition.

The pistol also features the familiar dual-stage trigger safety. The central safety lever must be depressed before the trigger can move backwards, helping prevent accidental trigger movement.

Underneath the frame, there's a separate trigger-lock safety that can be engaged to prevent firing. The enlarged magazine release makes magazine changes straightforward, while a lanyard loop at the lower rear of the grip provides an attachment point for compatible retention equipment.

Threaded Barrel, Accessory Rail and Clear Iron Sights

The EU17 Gen 5 comes with an 11mm female CCW threaded outer barrel. This allows compatible male-threaded accessories to be fitted, or you can use a suitable adapter for common airsoft tracer units and suppressors.

One thing worth remembering: avoid hanging a particularly heavy suppressor off a moving-barrel gas pistol. Excess weight can interfere with cycling and potentially damage the loading nozzle over time.

Underneath the front of the frame sits a 20mm pistol accessory rail, ready for a compatible tactical torch or laser unit.

On top, the white three-dot iron sights provide a clear aiming reference. They're especially useful when shooting against darker backgrounds, where plain black sights can become difficult to pick out.

Adjustable Hop-Up and Green Gas Performance

Inside, the WE EU17 Gen 5 features an adjustable gear-style hop-up. This applies backspin to your BBs, helping improve their flight path and effective range when correctly adjusted.

The adjustment wheel sits beneath the slide, so you'll need to remove the slide to access it. The manufacturer recommends 0.25g BBs, which make a sensible starting point for finding a consistent hop setting.

Power comes from the included 25-round Green Gas magazine, filled through the valve underneath its base. Testing with ASG ULTRAIR gas produced approximately 320 FPS using 0.20g BBs, with a stated variation of plus or minus 10%. Actual performance depends on temperature, gas pressure and shooting conditions, so always check your site's limits.

Like most gas blowback pistols, the EU17 performs best when the magazine is reasonably warm. Cold weather and repeated fast firing can reduce gas pressure and affect cycling. It's worth bearing in mind during a chilly winter game.

Existing WE EU-Series owners will also appreciate that the Gen 5 retains magazine compatibility with Gen 3 and Gen 4 EU17 models.
