Description

The AR-9 platform is becoming very popular, so Specna Arms has brought out its SA-X01, and it is the first release in their AR-9 range. 

The X Series is Specna Arms' answer to the growing popularity of submachine guns that look like AR-15s. 

The airsoft gun is a great choice for CQB games because of how small it is and how well it is made. The replica can also work well as a sidearm for a sniper or someone who operates an LMG 

The X series is different from other AR-9 platforms because it has a unique alloy AR-9 receiver with Specna's tough Nano Coating finish and stylish weight-saving cuts all over. It already has several great high-end parts installed on the inside, so it can compete with the ARP-9, X-9, and other 9mm AR platforms in terms of performance.

The Rifles Build

At the front, there is a standard M4/AR15 birdcage flash hider made of an alloy that hides 14mm CCW male threads underneath. The birdcage gives the muzzle end a rather plain look, but the 14mm CCW male threading lets any of the most common muzzle devices, like tracer units and suppressors, be mounted in its place.

The outer barrel is made of alloy and is 8.5 inches long. This is a good size for both close-quarters battles (CQB) and rough outdoor play.

The HandGuard 

The M-LOK handguard is 5 inches shorter, which reduces the weight at the very front of the SMG and makes it easier to point using stances that are good for CQB.

In the 12 o'clock position of the handguard, there is a 20mm Picatinny rail that goes all the way to the receiver rail. This allows long optical sights and even red dot and magnifier combos to be mounted while still giving you plenty of room to grip the barrel with your thumb.

The 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions have M-LOK negative space attachment slots that let M-LOK accessories be mounted directly or 20mm Picatinny rails for M-LOK be added to make it easier to use 20mm Picatinny accessories.

With this bb gun, you get the best of both worlds, with lots of ways to attach accessories and a front end that is light and easy to move around in its standard configuration.

Pistol grip & Rifle Stock

The pistol grip on the SA-X01 is a modern ergonomic design with a padded backstrap and textured panels on both sides for the best grip. The grip is set at a more vertical angle than usual, which works well with modern shooting stances and pairs well with the super compact PDW stock to make the platform even more powerful in close-quarters battles (CQB).

The stock is the standard Specna Arms PDW stock, with Specna's own custom texturing to make it easy to extend. On other brands' PDW stocks, the QD sockets are usually on both sides. On the Specna stock, however, there is only one socket in the middle. This means that if you switch shoulders to take a tight turn, you don't have to mess with the sling. The adjustment button is on the bottom of the stock, and its surface is textured to make it easy to use during a game.

Receiver and grip

The SA-X01 comes with a Specna Arms SAAS (Specna Arms Accessory System) high-density polymer stubby vertical grip for M-LOK already attached.

The grip is comfortable and has a crackle texture on each side to make it easier to hold. However, if you prefer a different grip, you can quickly and easily switch it out because it is M-LOK mounted.

When we get to the receiver, we can see that it's set up like an M4 or AR15, but it's a completely new design with a lot of ergonomic improvements built in.

At the front of the magazine well, there is a rough surface that makes it easier to hold the SMG. This is called the "magwell grip," and it is a great way to exchange fire at close range.

The magazine well has a built-in flare to help you put the magazine in when you're in the middle of a fight, and your adrenaline is pumping. Each side of the magazine well has weight-reducing relief cuts, and the trademarks are engraved deeply and clearly on the left side.

Markings

On the receiver, Specna's logo, "SA in a box," is at the top, and "X-SERIES," "9x19 mm," and the serial number are right below. The markings are engraved perfectly, which is something Specna Arms is known for, and they don't take away from the realistic look because there are no words like "6mm" or "for Airsoft only" on the gun. 

Magazine 

The replica comes with two S-MAG mid-cap magazines that can hold 120 BBs each. The S-MAG is a magazine made of polymer that was made by Specna Arms. The Specna Arms logo on the magazines stands out because it has a unique texture. Even at high ROF, S-mag makes sure that the BBs are fed without any problems.

The magazine release is in the middle of the bottom of the SMG, making it easy for both left-handed and right-handed shooters to use.

This magazine release is so big that there is no way you could miss it when you need to reload quickly. The texture of its surface also makes it easy to hold on to in any weather. Just behind the magazine release is the trigger guard, which is built into the receiver like modern "billet" AR15 receivers. This makes the gun stronger by getting rid of the M4/AR15 modular trigger guard system, which is known to be a weak point in the design.

The trigger 

Even when wearing thick gloves, you can easily pull the trigger because the trigger guard is bigger. Its angle matches that of the magazine well perfectly, showing that Specna thought about how the X-series would look.

The flat trigger is inside the trigger guard, but it's not just any flat trigger! Based on how well their Quantum trigger worked, this is the Gate Solar trigger. The Solar is made to work with the optical sensors in the Gate ASTER MOSFET/ETU. You can change the trigger travel and sensitivity using the Gate Control app, the Gate Blu-Link, or the Gate USB-(available separately).

The flat trigger is great for rapid semi-auto shots in CQB. It has a textured front surface for better grip and a short ledge to help to keep your trigger finger in the place it needs to be in.

Battery Details 

Since the battery compartment is inside the stock's buffer tube, there isn't much room for batteries inside the SA-X02.

To get to the battery compartment, you just have to unscrew the buffer tube with the stock in its longest position. Inside, you'll find a Deans battery connector, which is better for electricity than the more common mini-Tamiya connector because it has less resistance. We recommend the Specna Arms 7.4V 600mAh LiPo PDW Stick battery for the SA-X02, but you can use a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo stick battery if you add the Specna Arms PDW battery extension.

If you already have a lot of mini-Tamiya batteries, you don't have to buy more because the SA-X01 comes with an adapter that lets you use Deans batteries.

Gearbox

We find all of the usual Specna Arms goodies on the inside of the SA-X01, beginning with the ORION gearbox. The ORION features a reinforced polymer piston that has got steel teeth, and you get an aluminium nozzle and cylinder head, a quick-change spring guide that is equipped with Steel ball bearings to help reduce stress, and a set of steel gears running on 8mm ball bearing bushings. In addition, the cylinder head and the nozzle are made of aluminium. 

Built-in Mosfet 

The SA-X01 comes pre-wired with the Gate ASTER MOSFET/ETU, which gives it better efficiency and protects your battery, and has a lot of smart functions that can be unlocked with the Gate Control app, the Gate Blu-the Gate USB-link, or the Gate Programming card (available separately).

HOP UP 

The Helium TM Flat Hop bucking that was added to the replica will make the BBs more stable and the shots even more accurate.

The SA-HOP-up X01's unit is right where we would expect it to be: inside the fake ejection port, hidden behind the fake steel bolt. If you pull the charging handle on the top back of the receiver, the mock bolt will move back and lock open, revealing the rotary HOP-up dial underneath.

The rotary unit is the latest design for the M4/AR15. It is known to keep its settings well even when the gun is firing at full auto. It also allows for finer adjustments than the older gear HOP-up unit.

The Specna Arms Helium TM HOP-up rubber is installed in this unit. It gives a lot of lift and lets you use heavier BBs to increase the SA range. X01's When you're done adjusting the HOP-up, you can hit the bolt catch in the middle of the left side of the receiver to make the mock bolt "clank" home.

Quick spring change system

The replica uses a quick-change spring system, ESA™. It allows you to quickly and efficiently adjust the power of the airsoft replicas to the conditions expected on the field of play without the need for access to a workshop or a number of specialized tools - just unscrew the flask guide to show access to change the spring without having to pull out, or disassemble gearbox

The advantages of the ESA™ system are difficult to overstate. In light of the arrangements that exist within the environments themselves, this system guarantees the user significant possibilities and a lot of freedom. The ESA™ system makes it possible, with a minimum of time, to replace the mainspring and, consequently, to adjust the discharge velocity of the airsoft replicas to the area of play to guarantee the ideal compromise between the efficiency of fire control and the safety of oneself and other players. Also included in the box with the replica is a second spring M90 mainspring, which is perfect for indoor gameplay.

Motor 

Specna put in a high torque motor with Neodymium magnets to give the gearbox the pull it needs to do the ASTER justice. This motor not only helps with the split-second trigger response, but it can also pull much stronger springs than the M90 that comes installed.

Conclusion 

So, if you want to join the AR-9 crowd but are different and want to stand out, but not at the expense of performance, the SA-X01 would be perfect for you. The great features of the Gate ASTER will give the ARP-9 and other popular AR-9 platforms a run for their money, and the fact that the SA-X01 is made of metal gives it a place of its own among the many 9mm AR platforms out there.
