Description.

The Specna Arms SA-P27 PRIME™ Daniel Defense® RIII™ 10.5" is aimed at the airsofter who wants a properly sorted airsoft assault rifle without immediately opening the gearbox and replacing half of what's inside. This full-metal Airsoft AEG combines a familiar M4/AR-15 layout with official Daniel Defense® licensing, a CNC aluminium RIII-style handguard, Specna Arms' Dark Matter brushless motor and an extensively upgraded Version 2 gearbox. At around 2.59kg, it also avoids becoming an unnecessarily heavy airsoft gun once you've added your optic and other accessories.

Starting at the muzzle, there's a conventional birdcage-style flash hider. Remove it and you'll uncover a standard 14mm CCW male thread, so fitting most common Airsoft tracer units or mock suppressors is straightforward. Moving rearwards brings you to the 10.5-inch Daniel Defense® RIII™-style CNC aluminium handguard. Compared with an old quad-rail Rifle, the M-LOK arrangement keeps the front end slimmer while still leaving plenty of room for a torch, grip, PEQ box or other accessories.

M-LOK slots sit at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions, with additional recessed offset mounting points. A continuous 20mm Picatinny top rail meets the receiver rail, giving you plenty of space for a red dot, magnifier or longer optic setup. An alloy angled foregrip comes fitted from the factory, while flip-up polymer iron sights provide a useful backup aiming system. The front sight adjusts for elevation and the rear for windage.

The alloy receiver sticks to the proven M4/AR-15 control layout, so anyone who has previously used an electric rifle of this type will feel at home almost immediately. Daniel Defense® markings are laser engraved into the receiver rather than simply printed on the surface. The bolt release and forward assist are movable cosmetic details, while the selector provides SAFE, SEMI and AUTO positions with a positive 90-degree movement between each.

Pull the extended charging handle and the steel dust cover opens while the mock bolt moves rearwards, exposing the rotary HOP-up. This newer rotary design gives finer adjustment than the older M4 gear-wheel style and is better at staying where you've set it. Combined with the 280mm-long, 6.02mm tightbore steel inner barrel, there's a good foundation here for consistent BB flight. Specna Arms suggests 0.25g BBs as a starting ammunition weight.

The skeletonised flat trigger suits the modern appearance, but its value isn't merely cosmetic. Depending on the version selected, the SA-P27 PRIME™ comes with either the GATE ASTER II Bluetooth® MOSFET or Specna Arms HAL¹ ETU. With the ASTER II version, trigger sensitivity, pre-cocking, rate of fire and programmable firing modes can be configured through the GATE Control Station app over Bluetooth®. Available electronic functions include active braking and programmable combinations of semi, burst, binary and automatic firing modes.

The HAL¹ version takes a simpler approach while still offering plenty of adjustment. It provides five trigger-sensitivity levels, six pre-cocking levels, active braking, low-voltage warning and programmable modes including 3- or 5-round burst, binary trigger, semi-only, sniper delay and two-stage AUG-style operation. In other words, check which ETU version you're buying if a particular electronic feature matters to you.

Inside the reinforced Version 2 gearbox is where the PRIME™ designation starts earning its keep. Specna Arms has strengthened the gearbox shell around the spine and fitted CNC 16:1 steel gears running on 8mm J-CAGE bearings. There's also a reinforced piston with a full steel tooth rack, reinforced tappet plate, CNC aluminium piston head, cylinder head and nozzle, plus a CNC steel cylinder and quick-change spring guide. That's a far more serious internal specification than you'd normally associate with a standard out-of-the-box BB Gun.

Driving it all is the Specna Arms Dark Matter high-speed brushless motor. Brushless motors provide strong response while producing less heat than conventional brushed designs, which suits a gearbox built around fast cycling. Couple that with the electronic trigger and pre-cocking options and the SA-P27 can be configured for a particularly crisp semi-auto response rather than simply chasing a high full-auto rate of fire.

At the rear is a six-position buffer tube and M4 crane stock, so length can be adjusted from approximately 72cm to 81cm. Battery space is inside the stock, and the rifle is rear-wired with a Deans connector. For UK-market PRIME™ models, a 7.4V 1450mAh LiPo in crane/nunchuck configuration is the recommended choice. Importantly, 11.1V LiPo batteries are not recommended for this UK model because they can cause pre-engagement, and faults resulting from their use are stated as not being covered by the 12-month warranty.

The SA-P27 PRIME™ is compatible with M4/AR-15 AEG magazines and comes with two approximately 125-round mid-caps. That makes it easy to add magazines or integrate the rifle into an existing M4 loadout. Overall, this is a modern Airsoft AEG built for the player who would otherwise spend time and money upgrading a more basic M4. The RIII™ furniture gives it the looks, but it's the brushless motor, reinforced drivetrain and configurable electronics underneath that make the specification interesting.
