Description.

The Nuprol LiPo/LiFe/Li-Ion (2S/3S) NiMH/NiCad (4S/8S) Battery Charger is a versatile 16W charger designed for several of the rechargeable battery chemistries commonly used in airsoft guns and RC equipment. It supports 2S and 3S lithium packs, including the familiar 7.4V and 11.1V LiPo batteries, alongside 4S-8S NiMH and NiCad packs. Operation is pleasantly straightforward: compatible lithium batteries connect through their balance lead, then you select the correct chemistry on the charger before charging. Nickel batteries connect using the supplied 4-pin balance-port-to-Small-Tamiya adapter. For an airsofter running a modern LiPo-powered AEG but still keeping an older NiMH-powered airsoft gun as a spare, having one charger capable of dealing with both is particularly handy.

Charging current is rated at 2.0A, providing a sensible balance between useful charging times and everyday simplicity. Nuprol states that a fully depleted 1600mAh NiMH pack can be charged in around one hour, while a 1450mAh LiPo starting approximately 75% depleted can take around 30 minutes. Actual charging time will naturally vary with battery condition, capacity and remaining charge. There's often plenty of discussion among airsofters about fast charging versus gentler charging rates, but the important bit is matching the charger and its settings to the battery chemistry and specifications rather than simply chasing the shortest possible charge time.

LiPo Safety

Always use the correct balance charger and ensure the balance lead is connected when charging compatible lithium batteries. LiPo batteries should be charged inside a suitable fire-retardant LiPo charging bag and must never be left unattended while charging. Inspect the pack before use and stop using it immediately if it becomes swollen, damaged or excessively hot.
