Description.

The Cyma CM357 Short Pump Action Airsoft Shotgun takes the familiar spring tri-shot formula and gives it a more modern tactical makeover. Its short barrel, Magpul-style furniture and compact layout make this airsoft shotgun particularly suited to CQB, where being able to move through a doorway without half your gun arriving before you do is a definite advantage. It's still pleasingly simple underneath: pump the action, pull the trigger and three BBs head towards the target together.

Compared with a conventional Rifle or electric BB Gun, the CM357 offers a completely different playing experience. There are no batteries, motors or gas magazines involved. Power comes from the internal spring, which is cocked manually each time you cycle the foregrip. That means you'll never win a rate-of-fire contest against an AEG, but that's rather missing the point. This is a shotgun. Working the action between shots is part of the fun.

The business end uses Cyma's established tri-shot arrangement. Pull the pump fully rearward and return it forward to chamber three BBs. When you press the trigger, all three are fired simultaneously through separate inner barrels. With a 30-round shell fitted, that works out at ten trigger pulls before you need to change shells. For room clearing and short engagement distances, the three-BB pattern gives you a useful spread rather than relying on one projectile per shot.

The biggest external difference with the CM357 is its Magpul-style furniture. Both the pistol grip and pump have been shaped to provide a secure, comfortable hold, and that matters more than you might expect on a spring shotgun. You're physically compressing the main spring every time you cycle the action, so having a foregrip that offers plenty of purchase makes repeated shots much easier. Get into a rhythm – pump, shoulder, fire, repeat – and the CM357 becomes a very satisfying airsoft gun to run.

Its short front end is another genuine advantage. Long shotguns look fantastic, right up until you're trying to clear a tiny room or change direction around a barricade. The CM357 keeps the barrel assembly compact, reducing the amount of gun sticking out ahead of your support hand. Target transitions feel quicker and it's easier to keep the muzzle tucked in while moving through confined spaces.

Construction is a sensible mixture of metal and injection-moulded polymer. The outer barrel and magazine tube are metal, providing rigidity and some welcome weight through the front assembly. The receiver, action components and Magpul-style furniture use durable polymer, helping keep the whole package manageable at around 1.8kg according to the supplied specification. It feels substantial without becoming a lump to carry around all day.

There's also a Picatinny top rail, giving you somewhere to fit a compatible optic if that's how you like your shotgun set up. A compact red dot can work particularly well on a CQB build, although the nature of a tri-shot means you'll generally be concentrating on quick target acquisition and understanding your BB spread rather than chasing tiny groups at long range.

The side-mounted shell holder is another practical touch. The CM357 feeds from standard 30-round airsoft shotgun shells, so keeping a spare shell or two within easy reach makes reloads considerably less fiddly. It's also part of what makes shell-fed shotguns enjoyable to use. Swapping shells during a game feels a bit more involved than simply winding a high-cap magazine.

Hop-up is fitted but fixed rather than adjustable. That's a straightforward arrangement for a three-barrel shotgun where simplicity and consistency are the priority. Cyma states a muzzle velocity of approximately 280-306 FPS when measured using 0.20g BBs, although the shotgun should always be chronographed according to your site's rules before play.

Where the CM357 earns its keep is in tight environments. It's mechanically simple, doesn't care whether you've remembered to charge a battery, and delivers three BBs every time you complete the pump cycle and press the trigger. The modern furniture also separates it nicely from traditional imitation wood or standard tactical shotgun designs. For an airsofter after a compact spring shotgun with a little more attitude, this one has plenty of character.
