Description.

The Blackviper B4812 is a full-size M4-style electric rifle aimed squarely at anyone looking for an affordable Airsoft AEG for garden target shooting, CQB practice or simply getting started with electric airsoft guns. The first thing you'll notice is that clear receiver. Rather than hiding everything behind a black shell, the transparent polymer lets you see some of the inner workings of the airsoft gun. It's a bit different, and, frankly, rather cool.

This B4812 is closely related to Blackviper's B3814 and uses the same basic specification and gearbox setup. The body and gearbox shell are polymer, so don't expect the weight or internal construction of a more expensive metal Rifle. That's not really what this model is about. For its price bracket, though, the build feels surprisingly decent and the plastic-shelled gearbox is set up to cope with the gun's rate of fire. At around 300 FPS, it also has enough punch for casual target shooting and the sort of close-range CQB practice this gun suits particularly well.

Starting at the muzzle, Blackviper has fitted the B4812 with a mock suppressor that gives the front end a chunky, tactical appearance. Behind it sits the quad rail handguard, giving you plenty of mounting space for compatible accessories. A small laser sight, for example, can sit neatly underneath the barrel without getting in the way. With rails on several sides, there's plenty of room to experiment with your setup rather than being stuck with the gun exactly as it comes out of the box.

Moving back, you get the familiar M4 carry handle and iron sight arrangement. The carry handle is removable, which is more useful than it might sound on a budget BB Gun. Take it off and the receiver's upper rail is exposed, allowing you to fit a compatible red dot or other suitable sight. Keep the handle fitted and you've got the classic M4 profile with straightforward iron sights. Nice and simple.

There are some functional touches here too. Pulling the charging handle exposes the dust-cover area, adding a little more realism to the handling. The controls will also feel immediately familiar to anyone who has used an M4-style airsoft assault rifle. The fire selector gives you safe, semi-auto and full-auto settings, so you can take controlled single shots or let the gearbox stretch its legs in automatic mode.

The removable high-cap magazine holds approximately 400 BBs, which is a useful capacity for an entry-level Airsoft AEG. You aren't constantly stopping to refill after a handful of shots, particularly when using semi-auto. The adjustable hop-up also lets you tune the backspin applied to the BB, helping you get a flatter flight path once you've matched the adjustment to your chosen BB weight. Power comes from the included 8.4V NiMH rechargeable battery. A charger is supplied too, so there's no immediate need to buy a separate battery setup before using the gun. Charging takes roughly two to three hours. As with any NiMH setup, it's worth keeping an eye on charging time rather than leaving the battery connected indefinitely.

Overall, the Blackviper B4812 makes sense as a budget M4 for newer airsofters or anyone wanting a straightforward electric BB Gun for informal shooting. The transparent body gives it character, while the removable carry handle, accessory rails, adjustable hop-up, 400-round magazine and selectable semi/full-auto fire give you considerably more to play with than a basic spring-powered gun. Nothing needlessly fancy. Just a useful, fun entry-level platform with plenty of M4 flavour.
