Description.

The ASG Dan Wesson 715 6" Steel Grey is a CO2-powered airsoft revolver that puts realism right at the centre of the design. Fully licensed by Dan Wesson and CZ-USA, this is a substantial pistol, weighing 1225g and measuring 298mm from end to end. Pick it up and there is no mistaking that weight. The full metal construction gives the DW 715 the solid, mechanical character you want from a revolver rather than the lightweight feel sometimes found on simpler BB Gun designs.

Starting at the business end, the 6-inch heavy-duty outer barrel carries authentic .357 Magnum engraving and houses a 140mm inner barrel. ASG rates this version at approximately 138m/s, or 453fps, with an energy output of 1.9 joules. That's powerful for an airsoft handgun, so this is one where checking your site's energy and velocity limits before skirmishing is particularly important. An adjustable hop-up is fitted too, allowing you to tune the backspin applied to the BB and get the flight path behaving properly for your chosen ammunition.

The sight arrangement is refreshingly useful rather than decorative. The rear sight is fully adjustable, giving you scope to dial the revolver in instead of simply learning to compensate for a fixed point of impact. The longer 6-inch format also gives you a generous sight radius. Combined with the adjustable hop, it makes the 715 a much more interesting airsoft gun for deliberate, aimed shooting.

Move back to the cylinder and this is where much of the fun starts. Capacity is six rounds, with each BB carried in an individual Dan Wesson cartridge. Press the distinctive front cylinder release latch, swing the cylinder out and you can load it much like the real revolver layout it copies. ASG has paid attention to the drum lock as well, giving the cylinder a reassuringly solid location when closed. A speed loader and six cartridges are supplied, so you have what you need to get started. Just note that this model is specifically stated as not being compatible with cartridge Ref. 17606.

The firing mechanism supports double action, meaning a full trigger pull can cock and release the hammer in one movement. Alternatively, thumb the hammer back first for that classic single-action style of shooting. The hammer itself has a rough patterned surface, which gives your thumb more purchase. Trigger movement is smooth, and these little mechanical details are a big part of why the DW 715 feels more involving than a basic fixed-cylinder BB pistol. Loading six shells isn't the fastest system on the field, obviously, but that's rather missing the point. Half the appeal is the clink-and-click ritual.

The Hogue® imitation rubber grip is another well thought-out feature. Its shape fills the hand nicely and the textured surface provides useful grip, while the embossed DW logo keeps the licensed appearance intact. The CO2 system is housed within the grip, and ASG has incorporated a tool for tightening the CO2 cartridge into the design. No hunting through your kit bag for a loose tool just as everyone else heads onto the field. There's also a discreet safety switch that doesn't spoil the revolver's lines.

For players who like to personalise their kit, ASG produced custom CNC aluminium rail mounts specifically for the DW715 in silver, steel grey, blue and red. The revolver is also supported by a good range of Dan Wesson accessories, including spare cartridges, power-down cartridges, holsters, speed loaders, a speedloader pouch and even a compatible moon clip drum. That makes this much easier to build into a practical loadout than a revolver with obscure proprietary accessories.
