What is a Airsoft Hop up

What are the parts of the hop up?

Inner Barrel

The inner barrel is tube that the bb flys through. these come in a variety of diameters, the barrel is what the hop up unit sits on and is where the hop is set.

Hop up chamber

This is what holds the other elements in place in the barrel. and keeps hold the unit settings in place.

Bucking

This is a piece of soft rubber that allows a gradual change and will make adjusting the hop more precise.

Hop arm/nub

This is what is used to adjust the hop and pushes the bucking down to allow for change to occur.

What does the hop do

The hop gives back spin to the BB and which will make the BB go up as it leaves the barrel. With no hop the BB will drop quicker once it's left the barrel.

How to adjust the hop and ensure its accuracy

1) Hold the gun in the up right position looking down the side of the gun and fire it.

2) Look to see if the BB goes up down or straight.

3) If the bb drops increase the hop by turning either the dial, wheel or key that you need to depending on the gun you have.

4) If the BB flys upwards lower the hop by turning either the dial, wheel or key that you need to depending on the gun you have.

5) Adjust this until the BB flys the straightest for the longest.

What else affects the hop up

BB weights will have an effect on the hop as the heavier the BB the more likely it is to drop sooner. However, with the heavier BB the distance will increase due to the fact that the hop can be higher maintaining the level shot for longer. Be a aware this may alter the FPS of the gun.

Increasing the length of the barrel with also affect the range of the BB and how the hop may behave due to the BB being contained and directed for longer.

Power levels of the system may also effect the hop. his is due to the speed of which the BB is traveling and taking the affect of the hop up. This can be seen when there is a power surge in AEGs or if a more powerful battery is used.

Oh, hey. Just about to do some adjustments on the hop up here. You see, my

brand new rifle isn't shooting the way I thought it would and, seeing as
how this is my first Airsoft gun, I really would like it to shoot straight
and accurately. Well, it shoots straight enough, but it drops off at about
only 50 feet. Lucky for me, I have an adjustable hop up. So, let's just
crank this thing up and see how it does then.

Now, they're flying all crazy up into the trees. Is this how my gun's
supposed to work? Absolutely not. Proper use of hop up will increase
accuracy and range tremendously. The more hop up pushed into the barrel,
the greater backspin applied to the BB and the further the shot will
travel. However, too much hop up applied results in an unstable flight
pattern.

The trick is to find just the right amount of hop up to throw the shot
further, more accurately. Furthermore, it is a rule of thumb that heavier
BBs can be stabilized with more hop up and therefore can travel further
more accurately. This is one reason why many players prefer 0.25 gram ammo
over 0.2 gram.

If you didn't know how to, learning to adjust your hop up correctly can
breathe new life into a gun you thought was a poor performer. But now that
you know, you can get out and play. See ya.
